Arab media recently reported a new phenomenon that invaded Algeria’s beaches and became known as ‘Head Kini’ or ‘Face Kini’, and sparked controversy in the country.
The ‘head-kini’ is a mask to cover the head and face, worn by women when swimming in the beaches, so that only their eyes, and noses and mouths appear. They also come in different colours and are mostly worn by women and girls.
The main reason for quoting this ‘fashion’ has yet to be clarified.
Some have specifically attributed it to protection against sunburn, while others believe that the idea is local and goes back to different reasons.
On the other hand, this phenomenon has aroused great condemnation through the social medias.
Some created hashtag ‘#header_kini’ or ‘#head_kini’.
