The Arabic hashtag ‘#green_burger’ has hit over 9,000 shares from curious social media users in an attempt to find out its meaning.
The hashtag has been trending mostly on Egyptian Twitter.
Social media users are speculating why falafel has been mostly referred to as ‘green burger’ in English.
So attributed to ‘high class’ , people started accusing them of inventing terms in English for Arab words.
Users have also been speculating regarding ‘green soup’ as a reference to molokhia soup cooked from molokhia plant.
Many are confusing it with okra by texture and taste.
Falafel is a deep fried dish made of faca peas and chickpeas.
A high concentration of herbs contributes to a green colour of falafel. It is a traditional Mediterranean dish spread mostly in Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Israel and Palestine.
Each country has it is own falafel recipe.
